Aside from being a seasoned neuroscientist, Alexander Neumeister has a number of interests and hobbies to occupy his time.
Connecticut-based medical professional Alexander Neumeister is one of the rare people who manage to find time to complete extraordinary work in all of his professional endeavors, volunteers several times a week, and is also able to have fulfilling hobbies. Regardless of whether he is researching topics in neuroscience or psychiatry or donating his time in a soup kitchen in his community, Alexander commits fully to everything he undertakes including his post-work activities like travel, music, and gardening.
Alexander Neumeister has a seemingly innate ability to “do it all” and never lets anything get in his way. Travel is Alexander’s favorite hobby by far. He feels lucky and extremely grateful to have begun traveling as a child with his family. On vacations with friends, siblings, and as a family he has explored much of Europe. When it became time to pursue his medical degrees, Alexander chose to go to school in Vienna and remained there for over five years. During his time in Austria, Mr. Neumeister not only gained professional specialties in neuroscience and psychiatry but he explored the world and established himself as a humanitarian as well. Alexander set up summer camps for children with cancer in Austria and worked closely with homeless children in Romania.
Alexander Neumeister has by no means limited his travels to Europe. To date, he traveled extensively in South America, the Middle East, Central America, Japan, and Australia. Alexander’s trips have been both for sightseeing, short trips, and extended stays depending on how long of a break he could take while obtaining his degrees or researching for his career. Alexander believes in seeing the world from a local’s perspective and tries to leave with a better and more appreciative understanding of where he’s traveled than before he had visited.
Whenever possible, Mr. Neumeister enjoys gardening and the relaxation it brings. Alexander is blessed with a green thumb and will do whatever it takes to keep his plants alive and thriving. He has become known among his friends as the man who can fix any plant, and they quickly learned to bring their dying plants to Alexander who could almost always save them. Alexander’s current garden holds many orchids and regrown coffee plants. Not only has his apartment become something of a small greenhouse and garden but his office also houses many different orchids and rescued plants.
Music is another hobby of Alexander’s that morphed into a passion. He began playing the piano at age 4 and was trained classically. From age six to 18, Alexander trained at the University of Vienna and found himself on a trajectory to become a highly successful pianist. For personal reasons, Mr. Neumeister decided to forego a career as a professional musician and chose to become a medical professional. He now plays for fun in his home, for friends, and whenever he volunteers at retirement communities.
Growing up in Vienna, it is no surprise that opera became one of Alexander’s favorite hobbies. He considers the opera house his second home because he would do whatever he could to see as many performances as possible. He uses the music, the atmosphere of the theatre, and the experience as inspiration to create something meaningful in his personal and professional lives.
